Ralph R. Wright Natatorium Policies and Rules
The University of Louisville lifeguards have the right to remove anyone for behavior that is deemed either unsafe or inappropriate.
The University of Louisville lifeguards have final authority on all matters concerning safety and emergency situations in the Ralph Wright Natatorium until relieved by proper authorities.
The use of the University of Louisville pool is prohibited unless supervised by a University of Louisville lifeguard or authorized coach or instructor who must be present on deck at all times.
Children judged to be between 5 through 15 years of age must be under the direct supervision of an adult or coach at all times.
Lifeguards may require a swimmer to perform a swim test. The swimmer must complete a 25-yard swim, unassisted, to be able to swim alone.
The use of flotation aide devices by non-swimmers is prohibited (unless there is a signed letter from the Aquatic Director; they must have this every time). This includes lifejackets, water wings, baby floats, inner tubes, kickboards, pull-buoys, etc. Exceptions to this rule: proficient swimmers engaging in exercise or training programs, and persons with disabilities.
Only proper bathing suits may be worn in the pool. Individuals with cut-offs and gym shorts used in other activities are not permitted.
Admission to the facility is refused to persons:
Having any contagious diseases or infection such as colds, fever, ringworm, foot infection, skin lesions, carbuncles, boils, inflamed eyes, ear discharges, MRSA, any staph infections, etc.
With excessive sunburn, abrasions, which have not healed, corn plasters, bunion pads, adhesive tape, rubber bandages, or other bandages.
Under the influence or alcohol, or exhibiting erratic behavior.
Individuals wearing Street Shoes are not permitted on the pool deck at any time.
Water diapers are required for children who are not toilet trained or who have been toilet trained for six months or less.
The use of the 1m & 3m diving boards, the 5m, 7.5m, & 10m platforms, and the 1m dryland board‚ trampoline‚ belts & rigs is limited to University of Louisville Diving Team and authorized, registered United States Divers, or approved groups providing appropriate insurance. Only programs that have a certified diving instructor on deck and are approved by the Director of the Natatorium are permitted.
Blocking or restriction of fire lanes or emergency exits is prohibited.
Animals are not allowed in any pool or pool area except for the express purpose of assisting or aiding persons with disabilities.
No Tobacco, food, gum, or beverages allowed in the pool area except water in unbreakable containers.
The use of emergency exits without authorization is expressly limited to emergency use.
The use of S.C.U.B.A. equipment is not permitted in the swim pool except during scheduled classes, or with prior approval from the Director of the Natatorium.
No running or rough play is permitted at any time.
Swimming underneath the bulkhead is strictly prohibited.
ABSOLUTELY NO GLASS CONTAINERS ARE ALLOWED IN THE FACILITY.
Locker rooms will close 30 minutes after the pool closing time.
The use of folding camping chairs is strictly prohibited at all times on the pool deck of the Natatorium.
